Lagoon Update

The Lagoon Levy will be utilized for future expansion, future cell development and/or a future regional force-main project.  The reason behind the collection of the dollars now is due to the Provincial Government stating that there will be no new funding if Municipalities do not have a plan in place to become sustainable.  Provincial funding will not pay for 100% of any project, therefore, money must be put into reserves now. As we have seen, there are considerable expenses when dealing with lagoon-related projects.

Water Supply Update

The Summer Village of Yellowstone, along with a group of municipalities from within Lac Ste. Anne County, as well as Seba Beach, Wabamun, Parkland County, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation and Paul Band have been working for approximately 3 years in hopes of bringing a potable water line to Yellowstone and each respective member municipality.  These member municipalities recently formed the West Inter Lake District (WILD) Regional Water Services Commission to continue working on this project.  At this time, the Commission has submitted an application to the Province under the Water for Life Strategy for a potable waterline project.  Once the “project” is approved by the Province, the Commission will then give further review and consideration as to the best project – whether that be a stand-alone water treatment plant and waterline coming from the North Saskatchewan River or tying into the existing water line coming from the City of Edmonton.  The public will be kept informed as this project progresses.

Dangerous Trees

Council will continue to remove dangerous trees throughout the Summer Village. In addition to last year, more dangerous trees will be removed on property owned by the Summer Village. A reminder that dangerous trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.

Boat Hoists and Piers

To facilitate maintenance and proposed park improvements, boat hoists and piers are required to be removed from all parks to private property if you do not intend to use them in the 2009 season.

2012 Seniors Proclamation

Message from the Mayor

I would like to start by thanking all of the residents in the Summer Village for their cooperation in helping to keep Yellowstone a clean, safe & viable community.

Your Council is committed to the future of our Summer Village and will continue to plan for the future water and sewer upgrade projects by putting away money in reserves today.  We will commit a large amount of our grant funding towards these projects as well.

This year will see the upgrade of our security monitoring system and the expansion of our public works shop, both which will be largely funded by government grants.

Please mark your calendars and don’t forget to join us at our Annual Picnic on Saturday, July 2nd, 2011. Volunteers are required, if you would like to help with picnic preparations, please call me at 780-967-2178.

Should you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact me directly, one of your Council members or your Administration team.

Have a wonderful, safe summer and the very best of 2011.

Alice Solesbury,

Mayor

Fertilizing or Spraying of Lawn on Lakefront

The provincial regulations under the Environmental Protection & Enhancement Act are that applications of pesticides should be kept 30 metres back from an open body of water unless the user has applied for a special use permit (this will not be granted for an aesthetics application – only for control of a noxious weed problem).  Fertilizers should be treated in the same way as they also do affect the water sources.
